IT downtime - access to some Library resources available

Please note:

 

Bournemouth University are closing down all buildings and IT systems from 8pm Friday 29^th August to 7am Monday 1^st September due to the final stage of a major IT project.

 

This will affect our connection to the internet and therefore during the stated times there will be no remote access to any of our IT systems (including email, Moodle and the Portal) and there is also likely to be no internet access from within the AECC campus.

 

Sone Library resources will be available, please see the email dated 27/0/14 for more details on this.

What does 'embargo' mean on a journal title?

Found a link to access a journal on the A-Z of Electronic Journals only to discover that you cannot access the most recent issues and wondered why?

This is usually because the publisher allows free access to older articles but has a restriction on recent articles – this restriction is called an 'embargo period' - the publisher allows free access to articles older than three, six, nine or twelve months etc. but no access to the most recent content.

It is important to read the availability dates that appear in small print next to the link to a title in order to know if a title has an embargo period.

For example (from our A-Z List of Electronic Journals) – the journal ‘Hand’ is available from three providers from 2006 to present, but includes a one year embargo, meaning the most recent 12 months of issues are not available (image below).

Finding the full-text made easier: software trial

We are trialling some software (a Link Resolver) which should make finding AECC full-text articles much easier for you.

Topics in Integrative Health Care: new Open Access journal

Topics in Integrative Health Care: an International Journal (TIHC) is an open-access online journal.

"It is dedicated to advancing the integration of multiple disciplines, both complementary and mainstream, into diverse health care settings in order to provide optimal patient care. It presents themed issues on topics of current relevance to health care providers interested in integrative, conservative care, health promotion and disease prevention. It includes international, interdisciplinary Grand Rounds in order to facilitate communication and patient comanagement among various health professions, for the good of patients everywhere."

A-Z of E-journals maintenance Saturday 9th October 2010

AECC and Bournemouth University A-Z lists of E-journals will be unavailable (due to maintenance) from 11am - 4pm this Saturday 9th October, 2010.

Access to 5,000+ medical journals

Did you know that we now have access to over 5,000 medical journals via our new A-Z list?

This is in addition to the journals from Bournemouth University (these are the ones you access with your Athens username / password).

If a username/password is required to access the journals on our new A-Z list, this will be stated under the journal title, and the passwords can be found by clicking the link to the right of the journal title where it states 'Passwords for Electronic Resources'. If you are off campus, you be prompted to login to the AECC portal to access the passwords.
