Google Reader will be retired in July - what are the alternatives?

Google Reader will be retired on 1st July this year.

For those of you who have set up Google Reader to use feeds to keep up to date with database searches, blogs and news feeds the good news is there are a few alternatives.

The most popular of these alternatives, at the time of writing, is Feedly: http://www.feedly.com/

We like Feedly, it's incredibly easy to transfer your RSS feeds from Google Reader to Feedly. All we did was sign in to the Feedly app (available on Android and iOS) using our Google login details and Feedly did the rest - we were up and running in less than five minutes.

Feedly is also available on the web - when using Firefox or Chrome (but not Internet Explorer).

If you have any questions about this, or would like any help doing it, please let us know.

Take a seat in the library & let us know what you think!

Have you seen the new seats near the Information Point?

As a result of your comments in the last library survey, we are buying new seats and seating accessories (photos below).

There are sample seats at the Information Point for you to try. Please try them out and let us know if you find them comfortable. If you like them we'll buy more - so it's your opportunity to have your say in the selection process! We're also considering buying Swiss Balls, so please let us know if you would use them.

Chair wedges and lumbar rolls are now available to borrow at the library desk (for use in the library) and these are already proving to be very popular.

So please take a seat and give us your feedback!

Self-renewals and advanced search function in the library catalogue

There are issues with the self-renewal process and the advanced search function (when using Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 9) - these are not working at present.

Our suppliers are looking into this and we hope to get them fixed as soon as possible. We'll keep you updated.

In the meantime, if you wish you renew your library items please come in and see us, or email or telephone us on +44 (0)1202 436306.

Please note that 'unseen renewals' can only be done once for full-time students.

If you require any help with your searches, please do ask.
